Light-Horse Harry Lee
Light-Horse Harry Lee
(1756-1818)

Portrait of Henry Lee, thought to be copied by Benjamin West of Baltimore after a Gilbert Stuart original.

Lee is pictured as a Major General, the rank he held while commanding the army sent by George Washington to put down the "Whiskey Rebellion" in Western Pennsylvania. This action. taken while still Governor of Virginia, was very unpopular among Virginians and contributed to Lee's political ruin.
