Lucy Carter Fitzhugh was a daughter of Robert "King" Carter; mother of William Fizhugh, owner of the house from 1799-1809; and great aunt of Ann Hill Carter Lee. Ann's Carter inheritances allowed her to live independently and support her family while living in this house.
