Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures or even a keepsake, just my memories – I will never forget that wonderful day! |
Tonight I couldn’t sleep and decided to play on the internet and look up some places I had visited while I worked in Washington, D.C. I found your site on the Internet and took the virtual tour. I have to say I was very sorry to find that the home was no longer available for tours.
When I lived in Alexandria back in 1975, I took the bus every weekend to visit some site in the area. One day I went to “Old Alexandria” down by the docks and then took a walking tour. When I passed the Lee home there was a lady standing out on a side porch as I remember. I asked her if the house was open to tours. She told me there was no tour that day because they were remodeling. As we talked and she learned I was from San Diego and had an interest in early American history, she offered to take me on a guided tour. You can’t believe how excited I was to be allowed inside. I think I was there an hour or more as she showed me through each room. Although sparsely furnished at the time, I found it fascinating! She told wonderful tidbits about the former inhabitants.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures or even a keepsake, just my memories – but they are very special ones that I can enjoy whenever I wish. I hope that someday, the house will be available for public viewing. I will never forget that wonderful day!
Sincerely,
Jonann S.
